Eagle Finance at American University
Eagle Finance is the premier undergraduate finance club at American University’s Kogod School of Business. It serves as a central hub for students interested in pursuing careers in finance, offering a diverse range of activities and resources to help them develop the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in a competitive industry.
The club’s primary mission is to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application. This is achieved through a variety of programs, including:
- Workshops and Training Sessions: Eagle Finance regularly hosts workshops focused on essential finance skills like financial modeling, valuation, investment analysis, and interview preparation. These sessions are often led by industry professionals and experienced alumni, providing students with valuable insights and practical guidance.
- Guest Speaker Series: The club invites industry leaders from various sectors of finance, such as investment banking, asset management, private equity, and consulting, to share their experiences and perspectives with members. These events offer students the opportunity to learn about different career paths, network with professionals, and gain a better understanding of the current trends in the finance world.
- Networking Events: Recognizing the importance of networking in the finance industry, Eagle Finance organizes numerous networking events, connecting students with alumni and professionals working in their fields of interest. These events provide a platform for students to build relationships, learn about internship and job opportunities, and gain valuable career advice.
- Case Competitions: Eagle Finance encourages students to participate in case competitions, both internally and externally. These competitions challenge students to apply their financial knowledge and analytical skills to solve real-world business problems, fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and presentation skills.
- Investment Fund Simulation: Many years Eagle Finance has a student-managed investment fund (SMIF), providing students with hands-on experience in managing a real investment portfolio. Students conduct research, analyze market trends, and make investment decisions under the guidance of faculty advisors, gaining valuable experience in portfolio management.
Membership in Eagle Finance provides students with a competitive edge in the job market. By actively participating in the club’s activities, students develop strong technical skills, enhance their networking abilities, and gain valuable experience that sets them apart from other candidates. The club also provides a supportive community for students interested in finance, allowing them to connect with like-minded peers and learn from each other.
Beyond the specific programs, Eagle Finance fosters a culture of learning and professional development. It encourages students to be proactive in their career exploration, to seek out mentorship opportunities, and to continuously expand their knowledge of the finance industry. The club plays a vital role in preparing American University students for successful careers in finance, contributing to the university’s reputation as a leading institution for business education.
